In 2005, I rented a car from Enterprise Rent-a-Car, & my nephew stole the car keys while I was sleeping & crashed it into a tree & totaled it, & I had full coverage insurance on the rented car. Now, the company is telling me that I was irresponsible, & that I won't be allowed to rent from them as long as I live. (for the rest of my life) I think that's too harsh.

Someone needs a Karate chop to the head... just kidding... Ummm, NO! It's not your fault that nephew was a lil Tard for stealing your rented car. He should be in more trouble for taking the keys without permission. You did not do anything wrong!

Unfortunately, I would think that they reserve the right to rent vehicles to whomever they want to but what I would do is tell every person that I come in contact with about my experience with them and that you now go to either Budget, Hertz or Triangle. If some of the ppl that you talk to take your side then they will switch rental agencies also. All it takes is to tell the right person and that one right person can tell another right person and b4 you know it you cost Enterprise more money than they lost in replacing the car that your nephew wrecked. I hope that this helps. Good luck. Adub.

I DON'T THINK THEY ARE BEING TOO HARSH,UNLESS YOUR NEPHEW WAS LOCKED UP FOR GRAND THEFT AUTO,WHICH IS A FELONY.IF HE WAS PUNISHED.THEN I WOULD SAY YES THEY ARE BEING A LITTLE ON THE HARSH SIDE. I AM WONDERING IF THE INSURANCE YOU HAD ON THE RENTAL VEHICLE WAS SUPPLIED BY YOUR PERSONAL INSURANCE COMPANY OR THAT OF ENTERPRISE RENT-A-CAR. I'M PRETTY SURE IF THE INSURANCE ON THE VEHICLE WAS SUPPLIED BY YOUR INSURANCE CARRIER AND YOU PUT YOURSELF IN THE SCENARIO OF HAVING TO FIND AN INSURANCE COMPANY THAT WILL INSURE THREE TO FOUR HUNDRED VEHICLES THAT ARE JUST WAITING TO BE DRIVEN BY A 16 OR 17 YEAR OLD HEADED TO DAYTONA BEACH FOR THE PARTY OF THE CENTURY.

sounds fair, to them you are a liability, and in their eyes it would be cheaper to not rent to you again than to let another one of their cars be totalled.

surprised the insurance company actually didnt try to make you pay for the incident.

Sounds a little over the top, however read the small print on your insurance cover.

Do you even want to do any more business with a company that would treat you that way. There are lots of rental companies just use another one.

Yeah, that does sound crummy. It was irresponsible, but all in all there's still Hertz!
