I live with my boyfried and I really love him but as soon as he leaves our apartment he goes nuts. When we're home he's so nice but as soon as we leave the house he worries that I'm going to do something stupid, or his car will get stolen or a million other things. It's usually while he's driving. He says I don't understand because I'm not smart enough (he doesn't really SAY that but, ya, and it's only because he's mad). He gets really mad and frustrated and we end up fighting. What could be the cause of this? Is it a fear or something(leaving the house)?

He says he's not like this when he goes to work which is when I'm not there.

It sounds like he has a form of Social Anxiety. My husband gets 'wadded' up and is Hyper-Sensitive in Public, so I know what you mean. Are you sure he only does it when he's out with you?

There are types of Social Anxiety that only manifests itself in public and around strangers. The person who has it is comfortable with people they know, but strangers (general public) make them uncomfortable and sensitive.

His symptoms sound a bit like Obsessive/Compulsvie Disorder. The fixation with you and your actions is a bit unusual, I think. I suggest your boyfriend see a counselor, preferably a psychologist or psychiatrist.

He's got mental problems you shouldn't have to deal with...make him see a therapist and don't go out with him anymore. It might escalate into something else.

Reminds me of an old joke: Psychiatrist opens the door to room # 1. Guy in there is all dressed in a suit, smoking a pipe. He says: "I'm fine now, Dr. I really feel I should be released." Doctor goes to room #2. Woman in there is all decked out in an evening gown, high heels, etc. She says: "I'm fine now, Dr. I really feel I should be released." Doctor goes to room #3. The guy in there is in dirty pajamas, rolled up in a fetal ball, with a bag of cashews crammed into this crotch.

Dr. says: "What's your story?"
Guy says: "I'm fcuking nuts, Doc. I ain't never getting out of here!"

Do yourself a favor. Find a sane bf.

He may be insecure or have some phobias. You guys should try to talk about it and work it out.

I'm not sure what causes it, but it does sound like he cares more about you than himself, therefore he worries when you're with him, but not when he's alone.
