That is a GOOD sign!!! A baby's heartbeat should fluctuate. A 12 week fetus will have a higher heartrate than an older fetus. Fluctuation in the heart rate is called variability, and it's a good thing. It usually indicates a healthy fetus. Don't worry!
Also, the doppler should pick up your pulse from time to time. That's the blood flowing into your abdomen and placenta. A fetus who is 12 weeks old has lots of room to move around, the the heart is a very small target to keep track of. It's hard to keep a doppler on it continuously for any length of time.
An ultrasound will tell you if you have twins or a singleton. It is impossible to tell with one doppler.

The identical factor occurred to me! I was once 12 weeks pregnant and had an appoiment with my surgeon after having alot of unhealthy cramping. They introduced me right into a room with ultrasound apparatus and the surgeon played a doppler to uncover the babys heartbeat. He might now not uncover it and didn't pay attention some thing. They made up our minds to provide me an ultrasound proper then and there.....as I am ready and having a nasty panic assault they cant appear to get the computing device operating they usually ultimately do after fiddiling with the computing device he's taking a speedy appear on the monitor and says "ohhh good enough there's the pulse" I barley noticed it beacuse he gave the impression as regardless that he was once in a rush. He went on to mention babys heartbeat was once one hundred sixty and the whole thing regarded nice they published me out a few pix and I left all within the subject of what gave the impression of 10 minutes. My query is are you able to now not pay attention the pulse on doppler however see it on ultrasound? Im nonetheless so concerned! Does all of this appear usual?

It's probably not the same kind of doppler the doctor uses, and you probably aren't using it correctly. Or it's just broken. No baby has a heartbeat of 218 or 68. That would be fatal.

I never had a home doppler, but at my appointments that early, my son had a lot of room to "swim", so it was very hard to get an accurate reading. I can't remember the exact point in pregnancy, but he'd hear the doppler and move out of the way. Have you had an ultrasound yet? Around that time women have had an internal ultrasound with traditional obstetricians, that could ease your mind.

It's probably just a blip in the doppler especially since it's flickering on your own hb. Mine used to be all over the map. It could also be echoing through the placenta, which makes it seems some times like there are 2 heartbeats.
Congratulations!

I too was worried, and I brought my doppler to the doctors with me. He said it was normal... because the doctors doppler has a microchip that measures the average heartbeat... Our dopplers measure from beat to beat- which is why it jumps around so much- it doesnt give an average. You are fine- dont worry about miscarrying! Good Luck

It's happening because your not getting an accurate reading. Do a little research on how the doppler works and you'll see for yourself :) All is well wiht the little one... the 173 is probibly the accurate count.

Yes Gordie La Forge whatever the quantum coils to the alquametric generators are polarizing the digital doppler array.
