Don't buy Gateway, Dell, or HP computers. They're garbage. You'll always have problems like that. You'll probably have to take the computer back to Gateway to have them look at it.

I had a similar problem with my Gateway 7426GX laptop a while back. I inserted an SD card into the built-in reader on the side, and it wouldn't even recognize the card's presence. I figured out that if I pulled up on the underside of the card's protruding end, I could make it get a better connection with the contact points in the reader. Now I just use SanDisk's Ultra II SD Plus, since converting it into a USB flash drive allows me to download my photos and videos a lot faster than I can through any SD card reader. CompactFlash uses a pin connection, so that should never be an issue with your laptop, and MMC is basically an old, gimped down version of SD that uses the same reader. I don't believe Gateway laptops ship with readers for any other format right now, so the SD/MMC slot should be your only problem. For getting that to work, I'd guess that the thickness of the card can have an influence, but I couldn't say whether thicker or thinner is more likely to produce a hassle-free connection.

in case you have the practise e book on your digital camera it relatively is going to coach you the place the memory card is going. some have a slot interior the battery compartment, some the place you connect the carry approximately load your %. with USB lead. different than that look for a port that has a small icon interior the plastic next to the place you place the memory stick/card. wish this is of help to you.

Restart your computer and see if it reads it then...if not it's possible you have some bent pins inside...use a flashlight and look inside to make sure you haven't damaged any...then finally if that doesn't work...go to www.gateway.com and ask their tech support.
