don't people realise that, according to them, 1/12 of the world's population (that's about 350 million people I think) are going to have exactly the same day today?

Is it bc they don't think there is anything better to believe in?

People are looking for purpose, its gives them a reason to live each day. The sad thing is, its completely inaccurate. Just ask any astronomer about astrology, it wont be a pretty response.

Astrology is complete hog wash. How can the motions of the planets or stars affect your life? They can't! The light given off by the stars and planets is so minute by the time it reaches Earth, we have to wait until it is absolutely dark at night to even see them. The gravity they have affects us so little because they are far away, that the computer you are typing on right now has more gravitational pull on you then Mars does.

Why do people believe in astrology? Because people feel better when they pretend their future is a little less uncertain then it really is. Same reason anyone believes in anything that can predict the future.

Nnnnnooo, ye of little knowledge, we believe that 1 / 12 (sun signs) times 12 (moon signs) times 12 (mercury signs) times 12 (venus signs) times 12 (mars signs) times 12 (jupiter signs) times 12 (saturn signs) times 12 (neptune signs) times 12 (rising sign) times (indefinable amount concerning the relationships between the planets and the 12 'natural houses', but let's just say 108) times 2 (male or female) of the 350 million people in the world have a basic personality and tendency-list similarity::
that is 1/1,114,512,556,032 of 350,000,000....which you'll notice there's more possibilities than your estimate of the number of people alive today. By the way, my sources say that your number is a little more than the number of people alive in the United States. But even if the real number is something like 5 billion, so 1/1,114,512,556,032 of 5,000,000,000, or about 1/1,114 of 5.

Are you starting to get the idea yet?

Now, it's not just people that are affected by astrology, it's anything that has a place and a beginning, and the complete horoscope chart of your home, your neighborhood, your city, your county, your state, your nation, and your continent affect how your chart indicates that your personality and tendencies are going to work out in your life.

With that out of the way, we can look at your main conclusive-question, why (do they not have anything better) - - - we read stuff and we find out things like oysters, who are blind, in containers of water that are inside buildings without any windows, even when there is not food present and even when the amount of water they are in is insufficient for any human scientific instrument to detect any trace of tidal water movement,, nonetheless, oysters moved from either coast to Nebraska, still open up at Moonrise. In other words, the Moon has an influence (even if it is a gravitational one on the waters of the planet and on the waters of the beings on the planet) on beings that live on Earth, and what if the ancient ideas of what that influence are correct? So we go from a question to some info to a different question and begin gathering evidence.....and those who end up believing, have gathered evidence in the 'pro' side of the sheet that has convinced them.

It's not a question of 'better', necessarily, but more effective. Astrology not only tells me what my personal tendencies most likely are, and what my personal weaknesses most likely are, it tells me that certain conditions happen over and over again (like Mercury going into "retrograde"), and when they are happening next. Few spiritual paths are nearly as effective and reliable (and the ones that are, are generally similar like Numerology.)

But, hey, maybe you don't need your religion telling you what your personal tendencies most likely are, what you personal weaknesses most likely are, etc. That's cool.

I never studied astrology.never read a book on the subject.I did however study people for many years,I found out peoples signs.that I met and knew.I remembered.their traits, at a party once I told theses four people I would guess their signs by the end of the evening, I did, correctly.theirs signs and cycles in all of Gods creation.

My wife told me she didn't love me any longer,.a red mark come up over my heart line.as my Palmer arch vein from my wrist pumped blood into my hand as I watched, It amazed me.? what is this happening?, stayed for about a year then a callus was there, scraped at it with my nails for a few years till it finally went away,I studied palmistry after that, I have had people pull there hand back quickly and look at me startled and say yes your right,
In Job in the bible it says that God placed a seal on the hand of man so that all men may know his work.

I could care less what other people believe,

I do however believe and have faith in God, and have asked the Spirit of God to come into me, and I ask of it for guidance and it actually answers my prayers as I do listen for the answers with in me,and I then do Gods will as best I can. I and my family have witnessed some wonderful supernatural miracles that I am sure came from God.Peace,

Astrology is *significantly* more complex than sun signs, and those are the only part of one's "chart" that gets dealt with in the standard horoscopes. Those are put forth generally as entertainment. People who really believe in astrology will put together an entire chart--sun sign, moon sign, rising sign, etc--and that chart is far more unique to the individual. It's as much about what your strengths and weaknesses are as it is about what kind of day you might have. Also, the influence of the planets only creates "more likely" happenings, never definites.

My main belief in astrology comes from having noticed that friends' personalities tend to very much resemble their standard sun signs or rising signs, and from observing how earth, air, fire, and water signs get along (or, like with fire and water signs, DON'T get along). If you notice something often enough, then discover a pattern that explains it more often than it does not, you think, "Huh. There's something here."

But the idea of someone who checks her horoscope first thing every morning and goes into the world 100% sure it's going to happen is pure stereotype, rarely true.

Ask most people who are "into" astrology about horoscopes in newspapers, and they'll roll their eyes and laugh at you. I read them because I find them amusing, and every now and then (coincidence only, I know) they do coincide with my events of the day. (which is why I read them at the END of the day)
Oh yeah, why do people believe in it.... I can't speak for everyone, but you can agree that God placed the stars in the sky, right? For a reason I assume, because God wouldn't make anything for no reason, would HE? Of course not. What, pray tell, is the difference between a biblical prophet and a medium?

Why do so many people practice christianity or islam, or atheism. It takes all kinds.

How interesting would the world be if everyone was a carbon copy of the person next to them? Not very.

as sasquatch's daughter,
if people belive that their day is going to be simular to that, than their mind subconciously tries to make it happen and find connections, therefore many times their horoscope is true . the minds of those who dont belive wont do anything to make it happen therefore it wont usualy match their horroscope! both sides are right!yay!!;D
