When a ringing phone has been picked up, answered with an appropriate greeting and met with an inquiry along the lines of "May I speak with Mary?" or "Is Mary available?" the grammatically correct response (if in fact you are Mary) is "This is she."
Have an awesome evening!

Everybody who said "this is she" is wrong. I'll explain it to you.
She is a pronoun for a subject.
Example: She is going to school.
Her is a pronoun for an object.
Example: I gave it to her. (The preposition "to" signifies that the subsequent word will be an object).
You wouldn't say: Her is going to school or I gave it to she. It's grammatically incorrect.
Here is another example. Pretend like your going to extend the sentence "This is she"
This is she last warning. INCORRECT!
This is her last warning. Correct!

RAPSUX's reasoning is wrong. In the sentence
"This is she", "she" is not an object.
The verb "is" is not transitive, but rather a verb
of equivalence. It's like saying "This = she."

This is her...
I have grammar checker (by Microsoft) on my computer. So I tried both and it wanted to change the "she" to "her".
