Well, I've been trying to learn to play, and to say the least, my one year old son got to them. Although I think I retrieved all the cards I'm asking just in case, how many cards are there supposed to be in a deck of cards?

IF you have a solid 40 cards that you know well, and can get along with, by all means go with 40. you've got more drawing power by having less cards. On the other hand, if there are certain cards that you can't do without, aside from the 40 you have, thats ok too, just make sure you make up for it. I use a 48 card deck myself, because of those must have cards, but i don't rely on cheap cards like most people do these days or i could probably cut down to 40. I think its all about a matter of preference, personally.
