Queen Mary I of England was known as Bloody Mary because of her persecution of Protestants. She was real. The Bloody Mary (Mary Worth) who appears by reciting her name into a mirror, is not.

Not as the spooky legend you are probably referring to:
"look in the mirror and say Bloody Mary three times and....."
etc. etc. That's a load o' crap.
Bloody Mary (the name) comes from the nickname of one of the tudor queens. She was the sucessor of Edward, only son of Henry VIII. She was a big time Catholic, and she firmly believed that if you weren't, you deserved to die. She reined for quite sometime, wreaking havoc on England. Thousands of "heretics" were burned at the stake. She wasn't very well liked.

Yes, she is real. Her name was Mary Black. She is burried in the woods outside of New Castle, Pennsylvania. That's about 100 and change miles north of Pittsburgh, near the Ohio border.

People there take it dead serious, and don't go near the grave at night. And the incantation is different. I'm wierding myself out typing about it, or I'd type it into the computer.

I'm weirded out because I saw 3 twelve year old girls play the mirror in the bathroom game between gymnastics classes at a gymn I worked at around there, they came running out of the bathroom screaming like nuts, and one of them needed 27 stitches in her cheak. Freaked me out. I still domn't let mirrors in my house. It was like something out of a movie.
