Don't know many famous Germans, apart from sportsmen & women. Although I do listen to a lot of music and one group from Germany called Noisy Stylus are well worth looking out for.

Scorpions of course ! And Rammstein, Modern Talking...
If you learn german in France, you're sure to hear at least one time 99 luftballons from Nena !
For actors, i would say Anne Heche (good spelling?)
The famous top model Claudia Schiffer
Dont forget sport, with Dirk Nowitzki, Kahn, Lehman, Beckenbauer of course, Podolski, Zwensteiger (arg, bad spelling I suppose!), Völler, Klinsmann, Boris Becker, Steffi Graff...
And at last but not at least, Helmut Kohl, Angela Merkel...
And sorry for my mistakes, i'm not english too !

Kraftwerk, Rammstein. Klaus Kinski. I think ice skater Katarinna Witt has been in some movies. By the way your English is fine, probably a hell of a lot better than my German.

Your English is absolutely fine. (Much better than many British people's!)

I don't know anything about German culture. My family was so damaged by WW2 that we have always tended to avoid anything German.

But that was all a very long time ago, and I would really like to know more about Germany, its people and its culture.
