The tickles and the ridiculous (especially in retrospect). Apart from the ridiculous positions of love's consumation, the distortions men and women will go through to secure it or keep it (but, like a moth, love always escapes such contrived nets eventually - which is funny in itself). The stories - like the lover escaping with his clothes in his arms, sliding bare bottomed down a skillion roof, painfully, as hubby climbed the stairs - or the husband who, losing his mistress, was so distressed he told his wife about his loss, seeking comfort (with predictable results). They go on and on. Great comedy always lies with what we can otherwise see as tragedy. The more seriously we take ourselves the more ridiculous we can be, and love being so essential is most serious of all ... and human folly is always funny from the perspective of a critical observer. Especially with a critical mind, inclined to turn things upside down. Women understand the humorous side of love, as well as its pains, far better than men. But I think men often unwittingly make the humour as well as love's pains. Talk to women.

When two people are committed to one another, you both experience physical pain, heartache from a stupid fight, intimacy and laughter enters your life through television, movies, shouldn't there always be laughter and humor in a home to keep that home happy, when a human comes in from the real world. No one wants to come home to negativity. Humor is the cure for anger, sadness and loss of control. Try it, it works

Once when I was (in college) fussing with some folders, getting ready for the new semester, I saw my roommate and my fiance exchange a look. I knew they both saw in me something cute, funny, uniquely me. The one who loves you hold up a mirror to you, showing you how funny you are just when you're being so terribly serious. Love in that way is one of life's gifts, because it confronts that kind of trivial seriousness that so often takes all the joy out of life. Is it even faintly credible that the Lord God Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth, actually cares whether or not we wear hats? Or whatever?
So a really important part of love is learning to see what's funny -- in the sex, in the children, in the daily worries, in yourself, in your lover, even in life and death itself.

Fuel these fires for humor: positive attitude, spontaneous, small surprises, forgiveness, generosity, kindness, love, patience, responsibleness, trusting, relaxed, respectful.
Douse these fires for achieving increased humor: Anger, controlling, pride, laziness, hate, judgement, negativity, blaming, complaining, greed, disrespect, self centeredness, impatience.
Love is inside you. What is your capacity to give and receive love?
...with yourself, me, friends, family...
This is a lifelong project within all of our hearts.
