The salary ranges anywhere from 20,000 and up. qualifications required to become a certified chef...finishing a culinary intstitutes requiments in your chosen culinary feild.
work benefits...good food, fun and fast paced atmosphere.
Pros....being your own boss to a point. working with out any real supervision.
Being able to be creative.
cons....Long hours, expect 12 to 15 hours a day.
Burns cuts other injurys, bad knees, sore feet, bad back and not having a social life outside of work. Not enough money.
working with the public and their weird and rude behavior.
smelling like food all the time.
Restuarant managers that dont appreciate your work.
working with waitstaff.
Getting burned out.
interesting facts?
if you are an *** in a restaurant to the chef or waitstaff...expect bad things to be done to your food.
Being able to be moody with out any consequences.
most chefs I know are miserable pricks due to the lack of repsect they get from the people they work for and with.
Chefs are usually passionate people and hard working.
and a million other things.
If you are interested in the culinary field. Try being a prep cook first to see of you can really handle the pressure and work involved in being a chef. Even if you get certified in the culinary arts you are not garuanteed a good job from the start. Most if not all "Chefs" have had to pay their dues doing crappy work they werent trained for...ie salad bars, prepping, working the worst hours and getting crap from the chef over them.
Its also a fast paced job that requires a sharp mind and attention to detail.
Ive know Chefs just out of culinary school working in sandwich shops.
Experience is required no matter how much schooling you have.
Get ready for a long road if this is what you really want to do.
