McDonald's is now introducing healthier choices, to improve their image, eg. fruit salad cup & changes made to their kid's meals . These changes will help them become more marketable. The idea of making 'healthier choices' is only now becoming more mainstream. Face it, high calorie fast food sells and feeds into the American need for immediate gratification at the lowest cost possible. This helps to explain the lack of a large successful fast food restaurant chain that serves a 'low fat, free range beef burger on organic wheat buns w/organic produce with a side of baked potatoe wedges' at an affordable price.
McD's is not the reason American children are obese, American parents are the reason. If American parents weren't so busy/lazy to take the time to cook for their families instead of allowing them to graze on 'junk food' I'm sure the obesity issues facing children would be diminished. Furthermore, American parents are failing to teach children the importance of healthy eating habits and portion control.

No. People have a choice whether or not to eat there. 50 years ago, we had fast food places like McDonald's, and that was before they served any healthy options. Yet people weren't fat. And that was because back then, people ate fast food in moderation but usually just cooked at home.

Hey McDonald's now serves healthy food.
But why are children fat? Because of cars, TV, video games and parents who either don't let them or don't force them to play outside!
Back in the day, children had chores. Now we have so many modern conveniences they don't do much work or mom does it all. The first sign of a highly developed civilization is concern over the environment and obesity. In other societies fat is considered a sign of wealth and prosperity. Why? Because true hunger and starvation is a daily fact in many countries today.

Rictuar is a dumb dumb. He's definately entitled to his opinion.
"Healthy" food is a misnomer. Unhealthy "foods" plague our society.
You can have "healthy" junk food but the problem is when companies put things into food to make them last longer or look better. These things they put in have no nutritional value sometimes and some of them actually degrade our health.
Take hydrogenated oils and high fructose corn syrups. These two ingredients aren't the only bad things in our food supply but they are probably the most pervasive and nutritionaly unhealthy.
They actually destroy the body in their own unique ways. They are not necessary for anything else other than the manufacturers and retailers bottom line.
Food can be made to taste just as good or better without taking the nutrition out. Why do we need to eat?... to live.
Our eating habits are heavily influenced by people that profit from our purchases. This is a problem that needs to be rectified.
The bottom line is to eat things in moderation and eat a wide variety of foods to maximize your nutritional intake.
Drink plenty of water. Your body needs it to process fat and other things.
Exercise regularly and get plenty of rest.
Have lots of fun and don't worry too much about things you can't control.
Take care.

my son has type 1 diabetes so it's difficult to take him to fast food place but believe it or not McDonald's has a few options for him. We get him the 4 piece chicken nuggets (10 g carbs), the apples slices (without the caramel dip it's only 8g carbs) and they now offer capriSun Roaring Waters (9 g carbs). I don't know how many parents actually look at the labels when their kids eat there though. Most of what they have is horrific. My older son is always trying to weasel in a BIg Mac but there's not way. Those things have over 700 calories.

It would probably sit and rot. The bottom line would suffer. Eating healthy is a choice. Obese children have not been taught to make healthy choices or they would not be obese. I am speaking out of my own experience as an obese child. I raised three children and taught them how to make healthy choices. It takes effort to teach children right from wrong.

Its the parent's choice and fault. Go someplace healthy instead...or even try eating at home.
You don't have to eat fast food. When you go out you can select something better than fast food or even select a healthy fast food. Boston Market has excellent food that isn't drenched in fat but still tastes good.
My kids liked Soup R Salad and the various buffets when they were young. Plenty of healthy choices in those places.

Well, I will answer both of your questions. We have alot of obese children in the US because of the foods that we allow them to eat. Advertsing makes children want the foods, but it is also the parent who buys it for them. As far as McDonalds goes, Mcdonalds sells 3 kinds of Salads, low fat milk for kids, white meat chicken nugets, Low fat yogurt parfaits, apple slices, fruit salads, and more. There are healty choices, but we as people need to make the right ones.

Most fast food areas are addicting Parents should let there children eat there everyday, Most parents that over work are most likely to buy fast food practically everyday because the parent is to lazy to make the food themselves
And I agree with you we need more healthy choices at fast food places

They do serve healthy foods at McDonald's!
It's the CHOICES people make at McDonald's that makes them fat. McDonald's serves salads and yogurt and apple dippers, chicken sandwiches, etc.
