Most images have a a fair use disclaimer. This means you can use the images, even when copyrighted, if you are a student doing research or if you are a teacher directing people to see or copy a certain image for academic study and so on. Even newspapers can print a photo of Van Gogh's Sunflowers, and stuff like that for a news story. So, if your use of the photo falls under fair use, don't worry about copyright.

it depends on what you plan to use the images for, if it's for your own personal use that will not be displayed to any one then you can use any images but if you plan to use them to display publicly, you can still use the image BUT you must add to the image where it can be seen who the artist is i'd also put where you got image from, they can't sue you then because you are recognising them.
You could always contact the artist and ask for permission to use them and also state that you will add their details also.
I would not recommend stealing as you can get into legal probs also i can't see the satisfaction, here's a wild idea grab some paper and a pencil and give it a go yourself!!

I'm assuming you are looking for free stock photos? Check out DeviantArt.com in the stock section. Read the terms of use for each artist *carefully.* Some are free for use on DA only, some are linkware, and others are free for just about anything.
Good luck!

Veer.com is a good place to look. They have really nice royalty free photos. But if you are looking for drawn pieces of work I'm afraid to say most, if not all will be copyrighted.

Well, most of the people who create those images or take those pictures invested time, talent, skill and money. They deserve to be paid for their work, just like you do. If you can't pay, create your own. Then you can sell them.
Good luck.
