Im putting to gether a heavy metal cd for myself and would like some input. Im very much into old metal like maiden and metallica. Also a huge dragonforce fan. My preferences are for powerful, loud, bass thumping metal that just freakin rocks. What are some of the must haves for this cd. Thanks in advance.

If you like Dragonforce then you'll love Children of Bodom and Dew-Scented. Their guitarists are equally as amazing!!!

Speaking as a Metallica fan they're older stuff was way heavier, Battery, for example but look for some newer bands like Slipknot and man I am out of the loop, I'm not actually a heavy metal fan, I just like some of its music.

You sound like you like a lot of the same stuff I do. I love Slipknot's "Pulse of the Maggots" and you should definitely put in "Halloween" by Helloween. They are a great German metal band from the 80s. Wow, you really remind me of my brother... it's kind of weird... just how you worded everything and your music preferences.
Edit: I looked at other answers and thought 'why didn't I think of that?' there are a lot of great suggestions! like "wait and bleed", anything Korn, Cradle of Filth, NIN, etc... anything that has a thumbs up is probably another person and me...or just me...

You know some j*ck *ss is going to say Winger and Warrant don't you? Oops, that be I.

Black Sabbath, old Ozzy, Strangle Hold by Ted Nugent, Sound Garden has some really good stuff like "Out Shined"

For comic relief, please don't leave out Tenacious D. It seems to me like Jack Black is trying really hard to do Ronnie James Dio impersonation.

Try "wolfmother" "Woman or Joker". Rocks so hard your teeth will shatter!
It takes a couple listens but your bet the point.
