Keene is a decent college town.

I know you said "besides Concord and Manchester" but I would give Manchester a try. I went to school there (Southern New Hamsphire University) and it's a great place to live. It reminded me a lot of where I grew up in Canada and just had a great feel to it. Plus it's only an hour north of Boston which is nice for shopping trips.

I absolutely love Durham, home of the main campus of UNH. It's very rural, though, as is much of New Hampshire, so factor that into your decision. Portsmouth is also very pretty; it's a coastal town with a lot of history, and there's tons of downtown shopping. There are good restaurants and lots of quirky stores.

I live in the Lakes Region. Belmont to be exact. It's really nice around here, but I'm not sure what sort of work you're into. There's no skyscrapers or massive businesses.
