Formal means the guys have to wear dress jacket and pants or a suit. Girls can go long or regular short length dresses, but they should be on the dressier side, but length is your choice. I saw it on Oprah the other day and they said that women can go to a black tie affair in a short length cocktail dress, so it doesn't have to be long, unless you want to choose that style. And how fancy is up to you. As long it's not the type of dress you'd wear every day. Just a bit more dressy that usual. Have fun with your choices! And you don't need to have a date. Going with a group of friends is just as acceptable. The formal refers only to the attire that's required.

A winter formal is just like a prom. Tuxedos are usually worn to proms, but are usually optional at a winter formal. A nice suit and tie works well. One option is to wear a suit with a tuxedo shirt and a tie that goes with the shirt design. Long dresses are the usual formal wear, but cocktail length (knee length) works well, too. Don't forget to carry and wear great accessories. If chandelier earrings are worn, don't also wear a necklace! It'll be too much. As far as couples or stag, that depends on the culture in your school. Ask someone on the committee organizing the dance if there are any singles attending. While you're at it ask about attire. Bottom line: have a great time!

It all depends on your high school. All high schools tend to have different dances with differing levels of formality. For example, when I was in high school, the main dances were the winter formal and prom, but I know some people whose high school made a big deal out of homecoming. We went to our homecoming dance in jeans, but we wore long, fancy dresses for the winter formal. You should just ask somebody from your high school who has gone before.

My daughter's high school had its annual Winter Ball last month. Some kids went w/dates, others with friends or in groups. No,dresses do not have to be long. My daughter chose one that was street-length (about to her knees), but some girls wore long ones. Kids all had their own unique choice of apparel and it was interesting to see what they wore. Sweatpants and jeans were not permitted, of course. And nothing too revealing or inappropriate.

At a semi-formal ball, you will maximum probable see a sort of fashions. some would be very dressy (long robes and Tuxedos) whilst others may be extra casual (common clothing and shirts without tie.) human beings selection on convenience stages related to clothing. some prefer to be contained in the "over-dressed" class, whilst others might somewhat be wearing something this is closer to extensive-unfold positioned on. i might propose you gown to your own individual convenience point for the dance. The outfit your defined certainly sounds ideal, and in case you like it, then you definately must be large.

It really depends on the school. You'd have to ask around at your school to see.
