I'm turning around the age where I want to start dating. Nothing really serious; just something like group dating or like walking home from school, sitting at lunch, etc. My parents are super strict and conservative, and are the no-sex-until-marrage type. I love my moral beliefs, values and parents, but how can I tell them this? They think I should just pay attention to school and my grades will drop. I'm a straight A student and I know that will never happen. If my grades fall, I'll do everything in my power to fix it. My parents believe I'm not ready, but I'm pretty sure about this. How can I bring up this touchy subject?

Perhaps if you present it not as dating but as hanging out with a mixed crowd, they will be more receptive. Sitting at lunch with girlfriends and guys isn't dating. Going out to a movie or bowling with a mixed group isn't dating. That's all a part of growing up and learning to socialize. I wouldn't make a big deal about it. If a group is going somewhere and you'd like to go, just ask permission to go with them. Don't make it sound like a date, because technically it isn't. Be casual about it so it won't be a touchy subject. As for sitting with guys at lunch, I wouldn't tell them about it because that makes too big a deal out of it.
Just keep your grades up and go along with your life, socializing with mixed groups as you can. Once they see you are handling it great, they will be more comfortable with the idea.

Ask your parents what kind of "dating" they will accept. Then adhere to this.

I came from a very similiar situation. My dad said no dating...period. I was older than you(about 15-16) before guys really started taking any interest in me, so it wasn't an issue until then. Basically, I was allowed to date when there was another girl in the car driving with us, but not another guy or another couple. That's what my dad wanted. I didn't agree with it, but it was his rule.

If your parents will allow you to date as a part of a group or at school functions, such as basketball and football games, dances, school parties, etc., then do it this way. You are young and have a lot of years to date ahead of you. Respect your parents and show them you can be trusted. Refrain from the sneaky stuff if they say no to dating at your age. There is plenty of time to date. Remember that Jr. High and High School are only one very short time in your life.

Good luck, study & have fun!!! I second that your education is very important. Don't let anything ruin that.

That depends- r u single due to divorce ? I f so, quit worrying, go out & have a good time. If ur husband passed on, that's another thing altogether. U were married for 14 yrs., so I'm guessing ur kids r pretty much grown, teen-agers anyway. At any rate if he died, u're probably feeling like u're cheating on him, & I think that's normal. I've never lost a husband, but I've talked to other women who have, & they say that's the way they feel/felt. I don't care what anybody else says, 14 yrs. is a long time to devote yourself to a man, & kids. If it's been over a yr., don't feel quilty about going out & having a good time, u deserve it. If these feelings persist, see a therapist, get into counciling, it will do u a lot of good. Good Luck- & please let us know how u're getting along. We care!

I agree with "no-sex-until-marrage ". But I would say this, Mom, Dad, I think I want to start dating. If they say no, it means no. When you're older, start dating. Unless your parents say otherwise, of course. Remember, school is the most important thing. I don't know how old you are, but about 12 or 13 is the age to start dating. Good Luck! DON'T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You really don't realize how important education is............. Do what your parents want you to do and you'll be happier in the long run, besides, no one should date until they are at least 18 and absolutely NO sex until marriage.
When you do finally meet someone, get married and begin your family - then, you will know exactly why your parents were so strict with you and hopefully you'll be strict with your children also.
I'm sure you read all of the questions here; there are so many disrespectful children and so many really young girls getting pregnant that it's extremely scarry. I often wonder - where in the world are this child's parents and do they not care.....
