what are some good soft rock or rock songs?, you know 80's, 70's, stuff like that.

Journey, Kansas and Boston are good middle of the road bands from that era. Aerosmith has a load of soft rock hits. You could always go more 80's with Toto, Asia, Loverboy, and The Outfield, but your buddies would probably kick your butt.
