Well, if you are religous then it because you want to go to heaven?

For me personally, when I leave this earth I want to leave behind a positive legacy with my children, grandchildren, . I want to know that I have had a positive influence on other peoples lives and that I used my time on earth to grow into everything that I can possibly be as a human.

Also, it just feels good, and when you are truly an honest and trustworthy person, good things will come to you, life will be so much more easier. I am not religous but I truly believe in
"you reap what you sow"

Also isn't it important to teach the younger generations how to be caring, loving and trustworthy people? I believe it is our responsiblity and the only way humans have gotten to where we are today.

It is so so important, dont let these shallow and unhappy other users sway you.

Nobody can keep up a lie for long. Eventually, the alibis and the stories become so detailed and contradictory that you know one was a lie. If they don't, it's because you have said it so many times that you believe yourself.

That is why it is important to be honest, trustworthy, and reliable. What goes around comes around. If you are lying to someone else, you are also lying to yourself. People do not like when people lie to them, so why should you like yourself for lying to yourself? Likewise, when you do not trust someone, it means you do not trust yourself making the decision to trust someone. When you rely on someone who is unreliable, it means that you cannot rely on your ability to decide who is reliable. In the end, your soul is a wreck because you feel like you do not know yourself.

This made me think about something. What is it like when a schizophrenic lies to his other personality?

The way one become honest, trustworthy and reliable is to transform one's heart and mind.
The key to transforming our hearts and minds is to have an understanding of the way our thoughts and emotions work. We need to identify the opposing sides in our inner conflicts.
With anger, for example, we need to see how destructive anger is, and at the same time, realize that there are antidotes within our own thoughts that we can use to counter it. First, by understanding that afflictive thoughts and emotions are destructive and negative, and second, by doing our best to strengthen our postive thoughts and emotions, which are their antidotes, we can gradually reduce the force of our anger and hatred.
The way we examine how our thoughts and emotions arise in us is through introspection.
It is quite natural for many different thoughts and emotions to arise. When we leave them unexamined and untamed this leads to untold problems, crisis, and misery. This is why we need to adopt mental discipline spoken of earlier, in order to reduce the power of a negative thought, like anger and hatred, we must encourage its antidotes which are Love, Endurance, Wisdom, Patience, Compassion, and Tolerance. The result of this is single-mindedness, is an inner stable peace of heart and mind. As we use right effort to strive to accomplish these goals, we become honest, trustworthy, and reliable in every area of our lives !!

The effects of all deeds actively create past, present and future experiences, thus making one responsible for ones own life, and the pain and joy it brings to others. Being dishonest, untrustworthy and unreliable to others can be destructive and will add to the pain.

If you aren't then how are people supposed to confide in you. I guess it's ok if you aren't and nobody really cares about you. Then you don't have to worry about letting anyone down.
