Sadly though, the reason the video card is now slow it probably because your video card is now broken. Because running a video card (Especially modern video cards) without a fan will slowly but surely destroy it.

However to make sure, I suggest uninstalling it's drivers and downloading a new one and installing it.

That can be for a couple of reasons,

1.You didn't install the drivers for the Video card. You would have to contact the Manufacturer (preferable online) or use the disk that came with it (if any did).

2.Its not compatible with the motherboard. You should look up and make sure the motherboard supports a Nvidia chip. Problem is, is that it can be in-compatible in many ways.:

a.If the Chipset of the video card is compatible with the motherboard.

b.You have to check what type of interface it is (ex: AGP 8x, PCI, PCI E, etc....). Then check if the mother board supports it.

The fan should be important to have connected, otherwise you might burn it out. And the amount of Memory RAM and the Graphic card Memory shouldnt affect each other.

3. if the first two fail then you problaly burnt out the card when you left the fan off. I'm not sure why it would screw up when you connected the fan in but that might of been becuase of some power problem in your computer. In which case you need to increase your power supply.

Overheated the card and its damaged.Hence the problem. Or you need a bigger power supply to basically prevent brown out and provide adequate power to all your components.
