how do you find the reciprocal of a number?

I am in college math115 we are finding the reciprocal of a number can any one give me an example or explain how to do this?

Simply flip it upside down. Remember a whole number is the same as a the number over 1. So 10 is the same as 10/1. The recipricol would be (flip it upside down) 1/10. If you have 2/3, the recipricol would be (flip it upside down) 3/2.

The reciprocal is the multiplicative inverse of any number and/or fraction. You will get it by interchanging the numerator and the denominator.

For example:
1/2 - to find the reciprocal, place 2 as the numerator and 1 as the denominator. And the answer is: 2/1 which changes its value to 2.

You may apply the reciprocal to problems involving the division of fractions.

For example:
1/2 divide by 1/4 - Get the reciprocal of 1/4 which is 4/1. Then proceed to MULTIPLICATION. 1/2 X 4/1 = 4/2, getting the product 2.
