I would imagine that all of this was discussed in your text book which you must have chosen not to read. Primary elections will require that a voter declare their party. The majority of votes for one candidate will probably be that party's candidate for whatever seat he is running for. The general election will choose between a democrat or republican.
The electoral procress goes much deeper than that. Read your book, its all in there.

1. The primaries are where the party bosses choose who the voters will be allowed to vote for, and the general election is when people vote for the least of the two or more sociopaths selected by the party bosses.
2. To author the state budget and rationalize raising state taxes.
3. You have to be kidding!
4. From each according to their ability; to each according to their need.... comrade.

The reason I am answering this question in this manner is because I personally feel you should do your own homework. As stated before, your textbook probably will have this discussion contained within. That is why you paid big bucks for it. READ IT.
