No, the Spartans were not victorious. They lasted long enough to let the other Greek armies retreat from certain doom. They also slaughtered a lot of the Persian army, but were all killed in the end.

yes that is the story. the thing with this story is the 300 spartans held off the persians for 3 days by situating themselves in a valley so the persians could only attack a little at a time. the valley was located in a place that was not easily surrounded. the spartans were basically getting the upper hand until a persian scout found a way around the valley and the persians flked them and attacked from both sides, on the 3rd day. all the spartans died...every last one. this made the persian general lose his taste for war and the persians were defeated soon after.

this story was written by someine famous..i cant remeber but even if you give the author creative leway...it was still probley like 500 spartans to 4 to 5 hundred thousand persains....still an amazing feat.

1,000,000 is a bit of a stretch. The 300 Spartans were completly wiped out. If you want to read a fun fictional account of the battle try a book called "Gates of Fire: An Epic Novel of the Battle of Thermopylae" by Steven Pressfield. It is true tho that the 300 Spartans killed more than 10 people for every Spartan that died.

Battle of Thermopylae
480 BC
300 spartans against a massive number of Persian troops. For three days they fought to the death. It is said that the persian archers are so numerous that when they fired a volley, all of the arrows would block out the sun. Then one of the spartans said "Then we shall fight in the shade." If you want an accurate description, try going to wikipedia and type in Battle of Thermopylae.
