There was a piece on this on Television a Week ago.The Spanish
Conquistadors brought the Horse first into America and the Vaqueros were the Spanish Cowboys. They had there own particular riding Style and Saddle that was different to the other Europeans in that they had a more comfortable style that they could stay in the saddle all day without tiring so much,There Legs could dangledown the Horses side whereas other Europeans legs were held Higher on the Horse. The US Cowboys adopted the Mexican Vaqueros Saddles and made improvements to it and they also used the Mexican way of Riding Horses. They also learned the Knack of using one Hand to Hold the Horses Reins Keeping the Other Hand free for the Lasoo or using there Gun all Copied from Vaqueros.
