Honestly, the few times I have, I didn't give it much of a thought. They all put their knickers on the same way the rest of us.
Certainly I would like to meet a few famous or infamous, but that would be for conversation, not ogling. I have a contact who works security for these celebrities, some are anything but nice, and a good many are horrid prats.
Of course, others are really nice gracious people.
My tuppence worth...

I live in Toronto and have dined in nice restaurants where celebrities do make reservations. To tell you the truth, unless I am already a fan, I don't really pay much attention. If I am a fan, I can't help glimpsing over because you want to know if the admiration you have for someone because of their skill goes beyond that. It is human nature. Unless I run into Keifer Sutherland, I think it is safe to assume I will carry on my evening without the slightest commotion.

Never heard of Trevor MacDonald, we must be getting overlapped by Answers UK again. I do not fawn all over famous people, it is the promoters that even make them famous, not like *most* of them ever actually accomplished anything worthwhile.
Unknown people do great and heroic things every day, and think nothing of it.

I don't obsess about them, but I suppose the fascination of celebs, politicians, VIP's of any kind is that seeing them live makes them somewhat real. They are a fixture in our lives, but only on the screen, so having them right in front of you is a bit like looking into another world. And isn't it nice to slag them off afterwards?
We saw a politician in a bar the other day, and he looked SO OLD compared to his TV appearances. We discussed for ages what kind of heavy duty make-up he uses to cover his scars and wrinkles.
I guess it is the very act of realising that they are just human that makes these encounters so exciting. Seeing them somewhat MAKES them human by turning their "extra special something" status into a "needs to use the loo like me, too and has bad facial acne" status.

I guess it's just a shock that you've watched this person so much on T.V. until when that day comes you finally see them in person and especially if you're a true fan of theirs your nervous system just goes crazy and it's one of the happiest moments of your life you can't help but act a little bit of a fool.

I totally agree with you. I think celebrity obsessions are ridiculous, and yet I find myself commenting on them or glancing at People magazine in a check-out aisle. Things are so complicated.

Most of us do it - its bred into us. I stopped and stared at Tony Blair when he was going walkabouts in Nottingham. I am 60, and can't stand the man!

Society has been conditioned to not only be fascinated by celebrities, but to think that their lives are better than ours. They might have wealth, fame, and material possessions. But they are people just like you and me.
