Noun. The hint is: "THE divorce rate." If it was a verb, it would need an object (ie: The thing that is being rated.) The difference is: Hilary rated the model's performance (Hilary is rating; "rated," describes what Hilary did.) The rate at which the car sank into the water is unknown. (The rate refers to a thing: The speed of.) It's just the difference between a noun and a verb that you're stuck on :-). Another example is "Pall." There is A pall, and then one has the ability TO pall. ie: 1. The pall was draped over the coffin before it was lowered into the ground. 2. Every morning, I pall the light from coming into my room by dragging the curtains across the window. That's just another example. Can you guess which version of "pall" is the verb or noun?

look, as far as i know, if someone 'points''at something, it's a verb.....if you are making points re a subject or gathering points, it i a noun
