I don't really care so much about burning CD's,DVD's or any of that stuff. I do want a flat screen monitor, and enough power to multi-task, ie surf, use webcam, and play online games at the same time without causing my comp to crash.

@ Dr. House: 512MB of VRAM is absolutely insane for someone who wants to use a webcam and play online games. Those functions require lots of CPU power, not GPU power. Besides, it'd cost $500 to pick up a video card with 512MB of VRAM anyway. Video cards with 512MB of RAM are for hardcore gamers, not for casual computer users.

Get something from BestBuy with a wicked rebate. You're looking at 2.6 - 3.2Ghz, probably single core. Anywhere from 512MB to 2GB of RAM would be fine, but 1GB is generally enough. For video, I'd go with integrated to save money. You don't need 512MB of VRAM to play online games and use your webcam, so anything with an integrated GPU (note, make SURE it has an integrated GPU, and not chipset video, there is a HUGE different in performance) should meet your needs.

Happy hunting.

You can go to Dell.com and spec out your own computer. Half that much money would get you a pretty good desktop. You'll want a CD burner just to back stuff up.

flat screen $150, webcam $50, barebones computer case and kit about $500 depending on how much processor, memory you want and whether you will transfer any old parts to the new.

I build my own but if I were to buy one, it would be an HP due to their support and their ease of restoring! Contact HP and pick out a system with as much ram as you can get and a video card with at least 512 megs of vidram!
