if the law office of his lawyer is still open, you can try there. the best chance is to check with the probate Court in the area where he died. if he has a surviving spouse, in may be in a safe deposit box.

Go to your county's prothonotary office, they are the ones who have deeds and wills recorded. You may have a separate office which soley deals with deeds, see what they say as well.
