I live in South Florida. Senior Citizen heaven!!
When men get old, 60's, 70's, they dress very strange.
White shoes. White belts. Golf pants. Golf shirts. I mean the kind with the very LOUD patterns and colors. 2 or more gold necklaces. ID braclets on their wrists, both wrists. Rings on every finger.

Then comes the convertible sports car.

What are they thinking?

Young people find them gross.

Just look at the examples they had for what was "Cool" when they were younger. White pants, belts and shoes were very in and chique when these old dudes were young. Big cars, gold watches, all the things that spell affluence. Just think, when this generation gets old, you will finally have old Goths, still dressing in black, painting there finger nails black. Gangsta wanna be old people, with jerzee's and rims, maybe a pager or two. Think of how odd this will look to future youngsters? "Why won't grandpa pull his pants up? He just called me a beeyatch!".

This should be the last thing in the world to concern you. Totally silly. As to what they're thinking, it's no business of yours. The way young people dress could gross out older folk as well, but they've learned life is more important than poking fun. How about wearing pants with the crotch hanging below their knees & stumbling over the cuffs & untied shoes? & more. People have a right to dress however they choose. & please, no psuedo psychological "reasons" of speculation! Go make yourself busy with something rational.

Edit: Well--"expectations" confirmed. The AUDACITY of assumptions is laughable. I was 34 (01/01/07) & have always dressed in whatever way makes me feel comfortable. I don't CARE how others dress. Psychologically unsound & simplistic answers...want to feel young, caught in a "mode" etc. (As well as insults about the "elderly"). Don't forget you're heading in that direction like it or not, but hopefully will have gotten the good sense not to care a tad what other people think, OR make judgments about them.

I know, it is weird--it's not as though they're all senile, so they should know that their clothes are ridiculous. But hey, I figure someone who's 80 should be cut a little slack. Besides, they don't have to look 'good'--they've already gotten their mate 60 years ago.
It's the same with golfers--otherwise sane men all of a sudden think it's okay to wear utterly tacky clothes on the green they wouldn't be caught dead in on the street.

The year is 2050... All elderly men are at the peak of fashion (so they think) with their pants hanging off their butt and their patent leather sneakers untied... Or they are wearing those dippy shoes that look like some high-fashion bowling footwear that was all the rage in the early 2000's...

Like young people don't dress strangely. Take another look.

When you're old you don't care as much what other people think of you, so you dress for fun. Or if you've been married for a long time and your spouse is now dead, then you can finally wear all that stupid stuff they wouldn't let you wear before, so you go nuts trying it all on.

Those older folks are fitting in with their peer group. Who cares what biased young people think about them and others like them? Not me. I for one think the young have more than enough media domination. Their styles are the "right" ones according to TV, magazines, Internet, etc. "WOOT" to the folks of a certain age in Florida who dress with their own sense of style. And if they make some young folks drool over their rides ... good for them!

Once you get a certain age you start to care less and less about what others think of you. You've worked your @ss off for a company that thanked you by giving you a key chain, your kids are finally gone, you have just enough money to settle some place nice....so who cares if you wear bright miss matched colors.

one day you will be old. not too soon but still yet it will happen. do you now not find yourself trying to stay young in various ways? they have passed their prime and are simply trying to recapture that which they lost ... youth. yes they can dress loudly and even at times act childishly, but don't you think someone who is 70 years old has earned the right to make a fool of himself? 8~)

if i should reach the age of 65 or 70 or god willing even older, you will see me driving around in a candy apple red convertible with a Hawaiian shift and black socks. 8~) hey ... if I'm 80 i deserve to act the fool, i have had to act my age for many years and now its time to act as i see fit ... foolish or not.

i would suggest you talk to some of the older folks and get to know them, you may be surprised at what you may learn.

Well I think that most people dress with the times until they find a style they like, and then seem to stick with that the rest of their lives.
