I have all the proper papers, and he has all required shots. I just want to know how to ship him home. Solo. Then have family pick him up.

Hi Justin...here are the following guidelines that generally are required for pets being imported into Canada:

Canadian Food Inspection Agency for importing pet cats into Canada: http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/anima/heasan/import/catse.shtml

China is one of the countries which is not considered rabies-free so your cat will need to follow the following requirements: http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/anima/heasan/import/cat_chat_2e.shtml

Be sure to contact the airline carrier you will be shipping your cat far in advance as each air carrier has specific restrictions as to when you can fly and if the pet can fly in-cabin if you are flying back with him or strictly in cargo and which seasonal climates are not permittable (e.g. too cold or too warm). Most airlines will not allow tranquilized pets as it increases the risk of death in pet animals. Please see the following article regarding this concern: http://www.avma.org/careforanimals/animatedjourneys/livingwithpets/sedate.asp

Okay, you'll probably need a list of shots and vaccines that the cat has had. Also, you're going to need a pet carrier. Ok, next go onto the website of the flight service that you are planning on taking and they should have a section that explains if they transport animals or not. Read in there and see what there recommendations are. What shots, paper, etc. does the animal have to have.
Well, I hope I helped some! Good Luck

I'm in the US, but I would suggest calling the Dept of Agriculture (or Canada's equivalent) and maybe a vet in Canada too. You should also call the airlines to see if you can find one that will let her ride in the cabin with you (in a carrier, of course). To come into the US, you need to have a rabies vaccine and a current health certificate from a vet. Good Luck, and good for you for being so dedicated to your kitty!

One thing I know for sure ..........Make sure you have papers stating proof ownership........documentation of inoculations...
and if you can afford to purchase a seat for cat in carrier do so..........It is some what dangerous in the cargo hold. Extreme temperatures and exhaust fumes....That is a given.
You need to see the Canadian Embassy in China.
They will advise you of what steps.
I live in the US and it is difficult to take a pet across agriculture borders without ...proof of ownership and inoculations.
Your country's embassy is why they are there, to help you.

Good Luck! Animal Lover

There have been some no fly rules concerning animals instigated recently by some canadian airlines. But perhaps British Airways World Cargo could help you out.

Air Canada Cargo has been transporting animals for years. they have a special kennel you can buy which is IATA certified.
