I have this shitty k-mart skateboard and I've tried jumping on it and it doesnt seem to work. The only thing I can do is turn on the stupid thing. I think its a mongoose skateboard. Can someone reccomend a good starter skateboard to use?

yes, you can do tricks on a k mart board, but it is much harder.

My advice to you is to save up your money, and slowly upgrade your board as you can afford it.

first, buy:

MINILOGO BOARD= 30 bucks

then buy:

KRUX TRUCKS = 30 - 40 bucks

then:

SPITFIRE WHEELS = 25 - 25 bucks

Then:

REDS BEAARINGS = 16 - 18 bucks

I used to kick a** with my k-mart board. It was half black and half blue with a smiley face in the middle. It didn't even have a name brand. I replaced the deck tape a few times but it was a great board for just f****** around. You might try doing that instead of spending lots of money on a board that will get so messed while you are trying to learn. I say spend the money once you 've learned all the basics and have a good handle on them.

I don't know much about skateboards, but it seems to me that you have the PERFECT STARTER SKATEBOARD for you.
If you can accomplish a couple of feats with something that many would consider to be inferior equipment, just IMAGINE what you will soon be able to accomplish with the better equipment.
If you have skill as a skateboarder
IT WILL SHINE THROUGH NO MATTER WHAT SKATEBOARD YOU USE.

i would go to your skate/snow shop if there is one in the area if not go to the local mall to a zumies store and they will be able to hook you up with what you need. oh yeah, and it does take some practice

go to your local skateshop and buy a REAL skateboard, don't buy cardboard crap from K-Mart, support your local skateshop.
