Cheerleading is an exhibition. It is entertaining, but is no more a sport than ballroom dancing, regardless of what the olympics say. BTW, the olympics are full of non sports. The outcome of sports are determined by who outperforms the others by following the rules. There has to be a scoring system that is not based on opinion.
The amount of work put into it doesn't matter. Carpenters work hard building houses, but you wouldn't call what they do a sport.

I'd say cheerleading is definatly a sport. We work hard to build up are routines and we have practice the same time and same amount of days as almost every other sport! And sometimes, we practice more for competitions. Our school's varsity squad practiced everyday for about 3 hours and weekends for about 5 hours during the time of competitions. A sport is something you are dedicated to and perform physically and that is exactly what cheerleading is. Okay, so there are judges, but there's no rule saying that sports can not have judges, do they? I think NOT.
So basically for those who say that cheerleading is not a sport, you don't know it till you've actually experienced being a cheerleader. Thanks. =]

Obviously whoever says it's not a sport has never actually done cheerleading, figureskating, gymnastics, dancing, or anything that gets judged (By the way all sports are judged. Why do you think we have refs?). Those people don't have those bodies for nothing! That can be some hard stuff and to make it look easy definitely deserves respect.

I agree is it is a sport. They work hard and practice just as many hours as the boys on the football team at our school. I once heard that more people get hurt in the sport of cheerleading than any other.

Cheerleading is very much a sport. Grab a few basktball players, baseball players, or football players and have them just throw a simple basket toss. They will admit that it is very difficult. A few have told me that they don't see how we do this an entire game. Games are nothing compared to competing. In two and a half minutes we work more muscles than any football player. constantly moving, stunting, and tumbling, we are total athletes. For all of you that say cheerleading is not a sport, please participate in just one cheerleading practice

You obviously already know the answer to your question, but I back you up. I was a cheerleader (and participated in other sports), and it is definitely a sport. Be careful though, sports like cheerleading and gymnastics has some of the highest injury rates.

i believe its a sport!
its stupid how people say cheerleading is just a bunch of girls standing around holding pompoms
but its way more than that
theres conditioning and cheerleaders have so much stress to achieve the stunts they need to get to stay on the team. tennis hockey golfing are sports too. cheerleading is way harder than those sports. the people who say cheerleading isnt a sport dont even know what cheerleading is and theyre being hippocrites with acussing something that they don't even know.

Yes, of course cheerleading is a sport! There is a great amount of athletisicm, spirit and teamwork to this sport! The hours of practice, plus you have to know gymnastics, dancing, have excellent skill and accuracy in a lot of the trick moves and pyramids, drops, jumps......good god, you would have to be nuts to think it is not a sport!
