Firstly you need to know that problem skin, including blackheads has nothing at all to do with hygiene. The cleanest person in the world could have terrible acne.

Blackheads occur when the thin layer of oil on the surface of the skin fills pores, becomes exposed to the air and oxidizes. You need to start regular exfoliation to get try and avoid the pores getting clogged with oil in the first place. Try a gentle scrub and work in small circular motions. Also you should do a weekly mask to draw out any impurities. The skincare brand Witch is ideal; try the Exfoliating Face Mask, $12.95 and the Brand New You Face Masque, $12.95

Also available in the range is Witch Clear Pore Strips, $12.95, so give those a try too.

blackheads (open comedones in dermatology terms...) are non-inflammatory acne lesions. the cells lining the pores (hair follicles) on your face are abnormal/obstructed and need help to expel the contents of the pore. an over the counter product (found at drug stores) such as a glycolic or salicylic acid wash will help with this. your best product is a retinoid from your dermatologist. this will work faster and better than the products at the drug store.

pore strips will work the best. If not, make sure that you use the three steps of cleansing. 1. face wash
2. toner
3. moisturize
The toner will help a lot after you wash your face because then it will close up your pores, so then it helps your pores from openeing again and producing black heads.
