Well as a Hispanic I can tell you I get tired of being referred to as not only the first Hispanic in my position, but also the first woman in a male dominated field. I understand why it's important to hold up these type of successful role models in society, but I can't wait until the day when we don't feel the need to. Because I want to be noted for being good at what I do, not because of my race or gender. I don't want a special category. I'd prefer 10th place against an open field, than first place in a special category. But personally I think it's the media that continues to promote these categorizations. It just give them something to write about.

I assume you are talking about being multi-racial (or a "mix" (read product) of at least 2 (or more) races). It's odd that you are offended by the term "mixed" when used to describe yourself, but not offended when it's used to describe animals (of two or more breeds). A mix is a combination of...Maybe you can use a thesaurus and come up with a synonym that you won't be offended by?

It's not offensive. The fact is ALL Americans with the exception of Native Americans and immigrants who have become American citizens are "mixed". It refers to more than one outstanding heritage.
There's no need to get so defensive or take things so personally.

I have not and I won't, don't take it too personal: its not that serious, you worry too much. Some scientists in England are trying to create hybrids of humans and cows, now that's a real mix. You are human, get over it.
