Trying to "find common ground" is a lot like going to heaven. Everybody wants to do it, but nobody wants to do what it takes to get there.

I give thumbs up to spacecowboy, below me. But I'd like to rephrase what he said.
Common ground for liberals is doing every thing their way with no chance of compromise. If they don't get things their way then they hire an ACLU lawyer and argue in court that their way is a constitutionally guaranteed human right.

OK in an effort to find common ground I will answer Adam N's four points.
1) Throwing money at the solution wont work. Why? The average cost of private school is $3,116per student and the ave cost per student for public school is $6,857.(source: US Dept Education) Private schools have a much higher rate a graduation and further education for their students. The vouchers ALLOW the poorer childern the oppertunity to have a better education at a lower cost per student for the tax payer. How is this a bad thing? Private schools have to perform well or they will fail. Public schools have no worry of failing so they dont do as good of a job. Competion breeds sucess.
2) I agree 100%.
3) Fine lets drop the subsidys but lets also drop the taxes that account for 37% of the cost of gas. Those taxes are what pay for the subsidys so gas would still end up being cheaper. Also let get rid of all the "special" blends that each state, hell sometimes each county has and formulize one blend for each three octane levels. This would also reduce the price of gas about 5%.
A note on Ethanol even if all the corn procuded in the US was converted for fuel it would be enough to power our cars much less industry that relies on crude to produce energy. And thge best fuel cells(power produce and longevity) are made with petrolium.
4 Agian I agree. Buy a truck if you need the hauling power otherwise buy a (mini)van or station wagon.

Ok, for common ground, things that are important to me (and I consider myself a liberal)
1. Abolishing school voucher programs, and focus on putting more money into public schools, so every child has the chance at a good education regardless of how wealthy their parents are.
2. Reduce government debt. Balanced budget is the only way to go. I thought conservatives were supposed to beat that drum, but the last 7 years have shown us otherwise.
3. Do away with Oil and Gas subsidies. They only serve to artificially keep the price of Gas down, and stifle the free market. If Oil and Gas were allowed to float to the prices we see in the rest of the world, we'd all be driving Ethanol or Fuel-cell-powered SUVs instead of normal SUVs. The government's job should be to encourage competition in the energy market.
4. Outlaw SUVs. They're eyesores.

America's best interest is to have this division.I would rather have more diversity then common ground allowing for a wider range of ideas, opinions, etc. Consolidation will only lead to group think (remember the Nazis?).

And for what reason? You guys jerked us into a war by lies and deception, and have yet to admit you screwed up. You bankrupted the economy, you gave up on education, and you accelerated the rate we trashing the environment? Why on earth would I want to find common ground with you?

A good question. I am a conservative and all I want is what is best for America. I wish people would realize that we are in a war for our very lives and it will not end with Iraq. Please as Americans let's all join together to fight this evil.

Reasonable people can disagree and not be disagreeable. They do it every day. It happens far more in government than is reported in the media. It is just that the media loves a disagreement.

Sure. Conservatives stop calling everyone who doesn't agree with them gay terrorists who hate America and start backing up what they say with proof and liberals will consider your opinions when they go to write and pass legislation.
Sounds like a fair trade to me.
