People who I love that are great at music, dancing, cooking, and sports. People who have often had hard lives, been discriminated against, and lived in poverty. We are all equal and God loves us just the same. I know a lot of Christians who are African- American. They're my fellow church members. I'm Caucasian.

A black person. I'm black and I'm proud. I don't know why people get so caught on 'African-American'. I'm black and Latina, my moms black and my dad's Costarican but he's black too. He doesn't consider himself 'African-American' but rather Costarrican even though he has purer African blood than most American blacks. This is because on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, the part where he's from, the majority of the population are ancestors of former slaves who came to work on plantations. While there are mestizos or people of mixed races, the majority of the black population is of pure blood because of racism that exists in the country and they are strong believers of 'sticking to your own kind'. Therefore, I believe that the term 'African-American' was created by our own to try to create an identity for ourselves since our ancestors lost it during slavery. However, the only TRUE African-Americans are the ones that are directly from Africa and have come to live here as Americans. I probably just made things more confusing. I'm sorry if I did.

I think the term, like most labels, doesn't fit everyone. I have several friends who are black and live in America, but do not consider themselves African-Americans.

gangsta. this is probably due to the image the media portrays of African Americans. i don't see many African or half African people coz i live in Australia. i am aware that there are many non gangsta African Americans out there. in no way am i racist.

In all honesty (please don't report me), I think of a big scary gangster that only wants to rob a skinnny white guy (me). I feel that due to both slavery (whites feeling bad for what their ancestors did) and the few bad African Americans (like the bad apples in every race) black have gotten a bad rap
Edit: After reading over my reply, I realized that i called myself white. Why is this acceptable and black isn't? Again, I am certain that ity has to do with regret about slavery

Questions like this is why we have the problems of racism staying around. If you want it to go away then let it die.
