If you have a motor that you blew up or froze, unbolt everything you can from it and keep the carb, valve covers, flame arrestor, and everything you can. You can then order a "long block" from any engine rebuilder, scrapyard etc. Just make sure you buy a GM TRUCK MOTOR and nothing else. Dont let a mechanic sell you a car engine (car engines are '2-bolt mains" and trucks all have 4-bolt mains.) you WILL blow up a car engine quickly.

You can buy a brand new crate engine 5.7 litre engine
complete with everything heads, oil pan ,rocker covers at
Pace Performance , Niles Ohio 888-522-8136 for about
2,000.00 these are automotive , but when you order tell
them for marine use... a little more but they can get them.
They get them direct from General Motors. Very good
people , bought quite a few engines from them

do you need the complete engine? it won't matter about the '88 part. a complete engine w/carb. from Merc is fairly expensive. if you will accept a used engine, go online under used outboard engines. lots of sites. don't use an automotive engine, it can't take the rpm a marine engine can.
