they don't feel unattached to protect and serve the people
with the community they work in.what ever happen to the old
cops that would help teens with that old speech ... "Son don't

You honestly can't go by what you hear. Even though the majority of those who answered state that Oakland has it's bad areas and good areas, the bottom line is where do you feel safe? If you plan on moving into Oakland near Emeryville, I suggest you drive through the neighborhood during the day to check things out then do the same at about 7 or 8 pm. That way you will see both sides of the neighborhood. I also suggest you do it on a Friday or Saturday night, just because people tend to be a little more loose on the weekends. I currently live on the boarderline of West Oakland and Emeryville and haven't encountered any problems what-so-ever, but then again I'm Black and that may not be your case. But I'm still a woman with a small child and as I've mentioned no problems. I've been here for almost 3 years now. I moved from Richmond which actually seems to have a worse reputation than Oakland. You need to remember that the media is going to hype up anything that will sell newspapers - the good and the bad. Another thing is you could move into the quietest neighborhood and have a "Scott Peterson" living next door to you, so as I recommended: Decide what will make you feel safe Drive through the neighborhood both day and night to check it out Don't believe everything you read in the papers- the story is usually one-sided

I feel that there are bad cops throughout California. it has been said that the police are the largest, most powerful gang on the streets, and I do believe this. There is and has been such widespread corruption for so long, and the only reason it has been brought to the fore is because of technology. (i.e. video cameras, cell phones, etc) Sadly, the actions of a few demonize the actions of the majority.

I'm sure there are bad cops in Oakland, CA. Unfortunately, there are bad cops everywhere. Most are good, but every force has its bad apples.

My only experience with the Oakland, CA PD was at the Coliseum, and they seemed okay there.

I was born in Oakland in the late 1950's...lived there till I was three then moved to other close town. Still live in Northern California.

In relation to your question. . . Of course there there 'bad' police to be found in any area...Yet, I know what you mean.

Your message of "what happened to the old (style) police" . . . Life evolves as it does...society morals change. I am solidly optimistic that awareness will re-awaken again and that mind thought will once again return.

Of course that could be true...but, the same goes for all our States in the Union of America. They are only a few, and shouldn't reflect harshly on those who do a honest day of work.
