go andask your friend and see if he/she remembers, or you could take a lil sample of it with you to the pet store and compare it with theirs to find out or you could even ask the employee working the small mammals department.

If you're not sure, throw it out and get aspen. Cedar and pine contain aromatic oils that will cause liver damage and death. There are other safe beddings available. The following site tells of the dangers and even though it's about rabbits, it's true for all small mammals:

Aspen has thin needley looking shavings and pine has wider flakey shavings. Its better to avoid pine if you can, I've had to use it a couple of times when I ran out, but I put it in large bag (one of the ones with holes that you put laundry in) and shook as much dust out as a could before putting in in my hamster cage.

Do not use either Pine or Cedar bedding. Both can be deadly to hamsters. When they become wet from your hamster's urine, it will release oils that can kill your hamster. You should consider other types of bedding.

Personally I wouldn't use it if you aren't sure. You can take it the store to compare it like someone mentioned but I would go with something we carry called Carefresh. It's extremely obsorbent and there are no possible allergens in it. I like the white because I can see where the dirty litter is.

If you don't have the package you can't tell. Pine bedding is not the best option unless it is kiln dried. If is is not kiln dried it can cause liver problems.

HI
Cedar is the best. You can tell pine by the smell.
