In regards to most african cichlids, a 10gal tank is only suitable for SPECIFIC TEMPORARY situations usually usually involving and housing ONE fish: (maturnity tank, quarantine, hospital tank, etc). Totally unsuitable to use the 10gal in any other way, even if for one african cichlid.
In all other instances a larger tank is DEFINATELY required unless you want your fish to kill each other off and out grow the tank (55gal minimum for most mbuna 75-125gal minimum for various others), due to territorial, aggression, among other factors.

It depends on what kind you get. If you get dwarf cichlids(shelldwellers) you can get 2. But all you said was african cichlid, and what pet stores label as african cichlids are assorted fish that grow at least 6 inches. There is no possible way a 6 inch fish is going to be healthy in a 10 gallon tank. Sorry, you are going to have to look into other types of fish.

i might want to apply somewhat larger tank in case you may. yet you dont ought to bypass to a fifty 5 gallon. perhaps 20 to 30 to provide them somewhat extra room. there are 1000's of species of african cichlids. now you do comprehend that they dont stay children continuously correct? yet a 10 gallon will artwork for like 2 or 3. that's it otherwise it will be really crowded at the same time as they strengthen up.

Id be looking for shell dweller or other dwarf cichlids. They will most probably require sand as substrate and some shells. Other than that most cichlids will quickly outgrow that tank. Other option go bigger......
