my father retired our family maid of 35 years of service recently and gave her a parting gift and here, lyes what some feel to be a travisty. instead of giving Rosa, this wonderful lady of spanish decent money, he chose instead to give her my very first and very old car. a 1972 ford pinto that my father bought for me as punishment. i of course owned a jaguar later that year. father had the car towed to her home on the southside of town. i thought that was nice of him. yet people think he did her an injustice. so what if the car was in need of repair. it must be better than riding the city bus. i think people judged him much to harshly.

If your father's heart was in the right place, and if he meant well, then I would not judge him harshly because it really is the thought that counts.

Personally, I would not have given her a 1972 ford pinto that needs repair because she probably can not afford to have it repaired to the extent that it would be reliable, safe, and sound transportation for her.

If it were a later model used car that was mechanically sound, then I would have offered her that.

This is an insult to that nice Spanish lady that spent 35 years in employment at your home. I certainly would think she deserved much more than your old cast off car that is not even in running condition, she deserved a pension of at least half her wages for the rest of her life so she could buy her own car, and the shame also is, her wages only afforded her a bus token after 35 years of keeping his house clean, caring for his family and working with a smile as she must have. You can tell your father he is a bad example of a fair employer and a cheap skate at that.

Dear God almighty!

Couldn't he splurge and give her the Jag?? What a mean man!
He wasn't judged too harshly.

I bought my Nanny a dependable, new vehicle - after her 1st year!

Not to worry, Rosa's probably humming along in her Maybach with the thousands she saved working her whole life!

Have Daddy spend more money on your education too - you're not able to spell properly, construct a sentence or use proper grammar, judging by this post and your previous. You also make fun of Mexicans in one of your responses - you're sad.

It's also time for you to step up, at your age, and get Rosa something decent and a huge thank you!

Best to you with your additional "tales"!!

If the car had to be towed, what good is it? Maybe Rosa can't afford to get it fixed! Since you seem to have money, and Rosa's been with you for 35 years; I think dad should have gotten the car up and running. Other than that, I think dad did ok.

When you come to the end of your life try and put a value on it will it be worth a Jag or a Mercedes. Probably not, I'll bet you end up with a pinto like the rest of us.
Sounds like your father was trying to punisher her like he did you.
Or he didn't want to pay to have it junked. Smart man.
Carefull, wealthy parents tend to treat servants and offspring alike.

He was wrong. That's almost an insult. The very least he could have done was give her a decent car, like newer than 35 years old. He sounds like a miser.

Could she afford to have it fixed? Was it less expensive to buying a car from the lot? Did she accept it and was happy about it? Did he give her money to help fix it? If not, then that is something to think about. You have a jag., and he gave her a broken down car to get the junk out of his yard. What do you think?

out of all the years she worked for your family she gave you the best years of her life and if i guess right did a fabulous job and your dad slaps her in the face with a old junk car no one wants instead of giving her something that showed his appreciation for all that she did ... yes i think your dad was horribly wrong, and very unappreciative to her.

I think you could step forward and make amends for this insult by giving her a nicer gift in the name of your whole family.
