How much faster is 3G than EDGE?

I've never used either of them on a phone, but I was wondering how much faster 3G can surf the web. It is faster right?

Also, if I buy an iPhone and web browse with Wi-Fi for free? I shouldn't have to pay anything, right?

Edge speed is comparable to Dial up internet speeds which is slow while 3G is similar to broadband speeds to DSL and almost reaching to Cable Internet speeds.

If you have a Iphone from Apple you will be able to use the built in Wi-Fi feature to browse the internet from your home network setup or you can go to a public Wi-Fi hotspot (such as coffee shops, hotels, restaurants, and many areas around your cities) to use the internet for free. The only condition is you need to go to a public Free Wi-Fi hotspot otherwise they will charge you on a hour rate or day rate to use their Wi-Fi services.
