Yes, this question is open & broad for different levels. I am going to start with the NBA and work my way down.
This is pure showmanship - For the money. Some do it for other reasons. The love of the sport, the trill...etc... We have allowed our pro athletes at any level or sport to be showpeople. Some watch it for the fighting, the betting / gambling, but what ever the reason - it does not matter. It is for entertainment of whatever the game / sport is. The question is or should be : why is there no passion in the sport?
College - it too has change. The coaches are more aggressive with the officials, fans & players. The rules also have changed. This is with both male & female rules of the game. Where is the passion?
High School / Middle school - has many changes also, esp in the last 10 years. But some of these changes were good for many reasons. This is where we learn the real game of life. Do you have the passion here?
The beginning of the sport we choose... bball for this example. We are learning the game. The offense part, like shooting because we all love to shoot. That is the funnest part of the game. :) We hope we have good coachs that can teach the game so we can learn to play it with passion later on as we get older. This is the heart that makes us want to get better. Not the winning or losing part of the game but the basics. Dribbling, learning to use both hands, passing, DEFENSES, etc... Learning the passion but will you keep the passion?
It has to start with you. This sport will be around for a very long time. The passion has to start with the front office, players, fans, coachs, etc. before it can be played. The problem today is, in my eyes, there is no passion for the game. To me it is an ART, of many skills & if played like it is supposed to be played, a great memory to last forever. As a coach, I have that. Not taped but in my mind & heart. What beautiful memories I have of this game. I thank God he gave me the honor of becoming a player & a coach & having that passion all the time. Winning was not the objective - teaching them the sport was.
So what really happened to bball - it got better, it made superstars, broke people in many ways, & is one sport you make it what you will.
