I think it goes beyond the surface to the depths of people, the psyche, the fact that everyone has a sense of self, of uniqueness.
I have two lab mixes. Each anticipates and expects to be recognised as individuals. Any creature of higher mentality has some notion of self and individuality. We humans are simply a bit higher on the expectation chain than others.

Because that's what everyone is, no two people are exactly the same as far as personality. I think if people really did look at people as individuals then there would be less stereotypes and generalizations about people based on shallow things.

Is it important though. By protecting individual's rights, this government has brought in a raft of legislation restricting other peoples freedoms to accomodate the few.

Because people are individuals, even identical twins are individuals. I think people tend to group people together because of race or color or religion. I am a Christian who believes in evolution and I don't like being grouped in with the Christians who don't. It's wrong not to give people the benefit of the doubt that they are each individuals because it causes us to misjudge them.
