I have a student ID card which has a relatively strong magnet to secure it to my pocket. Do I need to keep this magnet away from my Palm TX PDA, or my cell phone?

It may cause some damage. You could wipe out the memory or it could damage he screen. Best to avoid having your pda come in contact with a magnet.

Big C said "Now if the magnet weights more than 1 pound then you better worry." but the weight of the magnets Will Not matter a 1kg (less than 1 pound) Neodimion Earth magnet will lift a 304kg weight.

Any the truth is that the PAD uses electricity in the system and iron ore an the hard drive (similar to a computer). Any & All magnets can and will change the magnetic feild of an electronic divice but the real unfixable damage will be done to the iron ore on the mini hard drive.

All data is stored on the hard drive and is changed by useing controled electro magnetic magnet feilds. If an outside magnetic force is applied when the hard drive is truned on then the process will be damaged and the face of the hard drive will be permantaly scratched.

However if the PDA was turned off then it is unlikley because the arms used to right the data on to the hard drive may of been retracted so no damage is likley.

But at the end of the day it is better to be safe than sorry.

The magnet would have to be right next to the phone and be pretty strong. Now if the magnet weights more than 1 pound then you better worry. But make sure the magnet does not come in proximity of your SD memory card.
