The oven doesn't work anymore in my gas stove. The pilot light is on...(it's an electic pilot.) The "gas" stove needs to be pluged in to work. I use to use a match to get it started but that's not working anymore. There is gas getting to it because the oven fills with the smell of it. Do you have any ideas on what I should do to fix it or do I have to spend a fortune on a new one? Thank you.

It is most likely the ignitor. That is what you are calling the pilot light. The ignitor must pull 3 amps to open the gas safety valve to allow the gas to flow. Even though the ignitor is glowing red it may be weak and not pulling the proper amps. You can check it with an amp meter. Not pulling 3 amps, replace it and your oven will light.

Sometimes there is a reset switch in some of the older ovens. If that doesn't work you may need to clean it. If that doesn't work you may need to put in a new thermostat. If you have a professional do it they can charge as much as 250 bucks or more.

If your oven is one of the older models from the 50s or earlier it is worth it to fix it. Then newer stoves have electrical parts that must be replaced every so often. The are just a bear to work with. We had a new type and just got disgusted after a few years of having to replace parts. So we went back and got an old Wedgewood. O'Keeffe and Merit, or most any brand will do. They were built to last hundreds of years and in the long run are cheaper to repair and far more dependable.

EDIT: After re reading your question I see you have a new type stove. My advice is to save your money and buy an older stove once you get the chance. Here in LA they have a few stores that deal strickly with older stoves. They rebuild them and recalibrate them so that they are just like new. They can run a lot of money, but if you're in the kitchen a lot you will appreciate these types. Figure on spending between 800 to 1200 dollars at least. Unless you find someone who has one in the garage and wants to let it go for less.

You obviously have more than an oven not lighting problem. You should not be getting an oven filling with the smell of gas unless there is a source of ignition to light it. You may have gas leaking through the main burner from the safety valve. have it checked by a qualfied gas person would be my suggestion.

the reason it needs to be plugged in, is so the auto pilot will work. if you cant get it started with a match my bet is the burners have a spider web in there. if you do need a new one you can go to a sears scratch and dent sale and get a good one cheap. i did. 600.00 stove for more than half off. had one scratch along the side but it sits between 2 cabinets. good luck.
