Will Adam LaRoche save the ever sucky Pirates, or will he just be another big name that is traded at the deadline for 3 minor leaguers?

Adam Laroche will make an instant urgrade in power and run support especially with the short porch in right field plus alot of people aren't taking into consideration his glove now with the infield of sanchez at 3rd wilson at short castillo/bautisa at 2nd and laroche at first we will have one of the strongest defensive young infields in the majors.and as far as gonzo goes yeah it is a major loss for the fans but 2 things played into the trade if you can basically give up a bullpen pitcher for a future allstar type player who wouldn't make that trade and I know the fans are upset about the lose of gonzo but if you only get 24 save opps in a season minus the month he was out which would have had him at around 34-38 saves why would you hold a closer so high on you list. If the bucs can get a strong veteran right handed pitcher not a player such as zito but a inning eater like a jeff suppan then they might be up for a serious chance at an above 500 record.

LaRoche will help a small bit, but Gonzo was no closer either. He was shoved into that roll, and was never very effective. I have had full Pirate season tickets for the past 6 years, and watch the same crap every year.
We do not spend the money, and now that the All-Star Game is over....most of us will stay away until they can put a winning team on the field.
They need to sign some players for keeps, and let the fans enjoy watching the home team.
Cheap owners will continue to equal empty seats. Pittsburgh is a football town, and even if the Pirates offered "FREE" night, most residents would not waste their time traveling downtown.
It is a shame, but we haven't won the WS since 1979 and not even in the playoffs since 1992....pretty lame.
Hope they make some moves soon, I have yet to renew for 2007 and LaRoche will not change my mind.

First, La Roche is younger than Gonzo. Second, Torres will probably start the season as closer - but he's thrown a LOT of innings the past several years. I'm thinking Matt Capps is the closer in Steel City before the end of the year.

Rumor has it they might want to bat Bay behind La Roche. NOT a good idea. Get Jack Wilson down to the 8 hole where he belongs and figure out if either Mc Louth or Duffy can play center full time. Then find someone who can play right besides Nady.

The trade brings up one interesting thought ....with Paulino catching and La Roche at first ...what do they do with Neil Walker when he's ready?

A Pirates fan can only keep hoping. LaRoche should help and will help when he is facing right handed pitching, at night, on the road, playing on artificial turf. I don't see us finding someone to close until mid-season and then it will probably be too late. I hope with every fiber of my being that I am wrong.

He isn't gonnasave the team, but they will have a nice firstbaseman for a while. They have a lot of other holes that LaRoche isn't gonna be able to help with. Bay and LaRoche back to back, righty-lefty is a nice duo though.

I also live in the burgh and I think LaRoche will make a big impact, and Torres is no Gonzo, but he will do.

i live in pittsburgh, were going to have another terrible season seeing were in a tough divsion and we suck lol. But LaRoche will put up decent numbers, and why did we trade gonzo? hes a great closer i guess grabow will have to take over.

I think he will make an impact like .290, 30+HR, 90 RBIs but not get the Pirates a winning season. BTW Salomon Torres will be the closer.

I don't think he'll do much. I mean, just look at the trend Pittsburgh has set: they only bring in players who are winding down their careers and send off the young talent. Losing Gonzo was a huge set-back to their bullpen...
