this country has taken care of too many people for too long, abortion is just another way of skipping out on responsibility ---animals take better of offspring than a lot of humans--this needs to stop--

It works, but the keyword is irresponsible, and that is what human beings tend to be. No matter how we try to modify human behavior there will always be an element of irresponsibility and we have to deal with the results of this behavior.
And how exactly do you propose that the pregnant females 'take care of their own business'.
