Offensive positions(displayed like they would appear on-field)
Offensive Linemen- Left Tackle, Left Guard, Center, Right Guard, Right Tackle
Quarterback-Behind the center.
Half-back/Running back-Behind the QB and in front of fullback(usually) or by himself.
Fullback-The back set shallowest in the offensive backfield(behind the linemen)
TE-Set adjacent to one of the tackles.
Wide Receiver- Set "out wide" in the formation, or in the "slot", between the wide out and the offensive line.
Defense
Defensive Line: (mirrors the oline) Right End-Right Defensive Tackle-Left Defensive Tackle Left End. Sometimes, there is only one Defensive tackle.
Linebackers
Strong-Side Linebacker-Lines up on the same side as the TE(usually to the left.)
Middle Linebacker-Behind the tackle(s.) In some defenses, there're two.
Weak-side Linebacker- Lines up on the "weak" side of the offense i.e. the side that doesn't have the TE.
Cornerbacks- Line-up across from the wide receivers.
Nickel/dimebacks- Line up across from slot receivers. The "nickel" is the 3rd corner, whereas the dime is the 4th.
Safeties- Free and Strong. The Strong Safety lines up on the side of the TE, whereas the Free Safety is on the weakside(thus "free' ).
Other positions
Kicker-He usually kicks the ball off for kick-offs and kicks field goals and extra points.
Punter- He punts the ball.
Returner- Refers to the player receiving a kick or punt from the opposing kicker/punter(thus "returning" the ball into his teams possession.)
Long-snapper- Snaps the ball on field goals, extra points, and punts.
Gunner(s)- These are the players lined up at the ends of a punting formation. They're usually fast, and are meant to get downfield quickly to down the ball, tackle the punt returner, or force him to fair catch the punt.

Defense: Strong Safety, Free Safety, Corner Back, Weak Side Linebacker, Strong Side Linebacker, Middle Linebacker, Defensive End, Defensive Tackle (sometimes there is a nose tackle...depending on if the team runs a 3-4 or a 4-3 defense)

offense is the team that has the ball in play, defense is defending the ball from the other team trying to score. I say GO COLTS tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
