My rabbits LOVE a liter- sized ice bottle! What I do is fill an empty soda bottle with water, freeze it, then give it to them. When they want to cool off, they'll snuggle next to it. Keep a few frozen bottles handy and switch off as they thaw.

A special treat I prepare for my rabbits on hot days are "ice pops"- which gives them something fun to do and helps them cool off. What I do is freeze fruit and veggie slices in water, or a fruit juice/water mixture in a small paper cup or childrens popsicle molds (the paper from the cup can be peeled away when the pops are frozen). Once the treat freezes, give it to your bunny. She'll love it!

It's important to make sure your bunny has fresh, clean H20 available at all times. It's absolutely neseccary, especially in hot weather!

I'd also like to suggest letting your bunny hop in an enclosed outdoor area (think garden or wire pen). She'll love digging in the cool dirt and stretching out in the shade. If this isn't possible, you can give her a large box filled with dirt so she can lie down in it or dig- bunnies absolutely LOVE this!

Another thing that helps if it's really hot in to wet their ears- which seems to have an overall cooling effect. Just mak esure the water stays on the outside of the ears & doesn't enter the ear cavity!

Oh, and definately don't bring your bunny into an air conditioned area unless you are prepared to keep her there as long as the weather is hot (which could be days, weeks, or months). It's not fair to bring an outdoor rabbit into an air conditioned area than expect her to go back outside and live there. You could decide to keep her as an indoor pet, but just don't bring her back outdoors...

The two most important things are shade and good air circulation.

So the two things you've done so far sound good.

You can also freeze a 2 liter bottle or fill a canning jar with ice cubes for your rabbit to lay against to get cool. Having a fan on your rabbit will also help. Another thing you can do is wet your rabbit's ears with cool water. Rabbits cool through their ears and the water on the ears will help your rabbit cool.

You may want to consider moving the hutch to a place with more shade. If that is not available, consider planting a tree or grapevine to give your rabbit some shade. It won't give your rabbit shade this year, but in time it will. If you want to grow shade quickly, a grape vine works best. Create a trellis about 3-4 feet over the top of the hutch for the grape vine to grow on. If you decide to plant a tree, plant a tree variety that does not lose it's leaves early. Maples tend to make a very good shade tree. Don't plant a tree such as walnut or cottonwood, they lose their leaves too quickly. Also don't plant a fruit tree such as an apple tree. The fruit on the ground will attract bees.

Till the trees or vine does grow. You could install shade netting over the top of hutch like what is found in green houses. Also, use white roofing on your hutch. The white roofing will help reflect away some of the sun's rays and heat.

Make sure she has good air circulation. If inside a building, put fans up to circulate the air.

Outside, there isn't much that can help if there is no breeze for circulation.

Freeze some water in small or large pop bottles/water bottles. A rabbit that wants to will lay against them to keep cool. Or, take a piece of burlap sack and soak it in water, rabbits will lay on them to keep cool too.

Rabbits can regulate their body temperature through their ears....carely run cool water over the ears (NOT into the ears). Offer a bowl of water rather than a bottle, rabbits can step into or dip their ears (if they are lops) to keep cool.

Find shade, or make shade...that is a MAJOR must for an outside housed rabbit.

Dirt is a natural coolant for rabbits. Make a box and put some dirt into and put in the cage, rabbits will dig and lay in the dirt for coolness.

Rabbits actually do okay in high temperatures, it is the humidity level that is what is the killer.

Avoid sudden changes in temperatures. DO NOT take a rabbit inside the air conditioned house that is used to being outside. Just as do not take one used to being inside suddenly outside. Rabbits need to be able to gradually adjust to the changing seasons to adapt well.

I have the same problem with my rabbit the last couple of days. She lives under cover, but it still gets really hot out there, so I have put a pedestal fan on oscillating beside her hutch and she seems much more comfortable now.

Freeze some empty water bottles and place one in the cage. The rabbit will lay on it or next to it. Keep replacing the bottles when they thaw out. Refreeze them and repeat the process daily.
